Christmas at The Nest

This Christmas was full of blessings! We were blessed with wonderful support from all kinds of people! Isn’t the greatest gift of all gifts “the gift of love”?! We really felt it this Christmas. Thank you to all those angels who made it  happen.

First, we got chicken from Kenchich for all children donated! So the kids had a very special meal of chicken and chapati on Christmas Day. All the staff at The Nest helped to make the chapati – it took hours and hours. What a great gift of love!Kenya_2009_12_25_1104

One of our friends – Michaela and her Dad – helped to buy an apple for every child! What a special treat!

With the help of Michaela, her Dad and CIC Nairobi every child also received an individual Christmas gift! The kids had drawn wrapping paper for each other with the name of a child on every gift. That way each of the kids also had something to share with another child. They were so proud of their beautiful drawings!

The staff at The Nest also received a small gift. The volunteers and kids at The Nest had put small things for them in a Christmas stocking during the days before Christmas. Some of the kids wrote “thank you notes” to give to the staff.  What a nice gift of appreciation!

Our volunteers – Katrin and Susanne – at The Nest also helped make the day a success. Here they are with their Christmas gift: a gift voucher for allowing them to wash their laundry in a washing machine (the usual way of washing is by hand)

Last but most important – Irene told the kids the story of Christmas. Although most of the kids have heard the story many times before they listen quietly and enjoy the wonder of Christmas.

I’ve been following the story of The Nest for some time. Is there a way to send items to the Nest without it being lost somewhere or your having to pay to collect.
I lived in Nairobi for several years and experienced problems in receiving packages. I am familiar with Limuru as my son attended school there, but it was before The Nest was established. I spent a lot of time at Dr. Bernardo’s children’s home. I have been back in Canada for some time now but have wonderful memories of my time there.
I hope the new year is good for you and the children.
I will look forward to hearing from you. Take care, Jan
