“Ist deine Mama auch im Gefängnis?” fragen die anderen Kinder als Daniel im Nest ankommt. Daniel nickt nur stumm und antwortet nicht. In der erste Woche ist er kaum ansprechbar. Am Liebsten sitzt der 10-Jährige alleine in einer Ecke und will sich nicht trösten lassen. Doch die Sozialarbeiterinnen lassen nicht locker und suchen immer wieder das Gespräch mit ihm. Auch die anderen Kinder schleichen immer wieder an ihn heran. “Vermisst du deine Mama?” fragt ihn die kleine Veronicah, “Irgendwann holt sie dich wieder ab. Du wirst schon sehen…” versucht sie ihn zu trösten.

“Is your Mama in prison, too?” the children ask Daniel as he arrives at the Nest for the first time. Daniel nods quietly. During his first week at The Nest he doesn’t communicate. He sits around and lets nobody near him. But the Nest’s social workers keep an eye on him and try to counsel him constantly. The other kids also try to give him company and seek his attention. “Do you miss your Mama?” little Veronicah asks him in a soft voice. “She will come and pick you up some time. You will see…” she tries to comfort him.

Irene is back in town after several weeks of fund raising in Germany. The kids and team at The Nest gave her the warmest welcome one can imagine, and it was great seeing the excitement in their eyes!
