Last night the staff and children at The Nest had a traumatic experience. Early in the morning, villagers knocked at the gates of The Nest. In their hands they held a naked newborn baby. The baby had been found at the roadside near Limuru Town just hours earlier, wrapped in nothing but a plastic bag. It must have lain in the cold of the night for several hours since the tiny body was totally motionless. The villagers had instantly started a search for the unknown mother instead of taking the baby to the nearest hospital or bringing it to The Nest immediately after they found it. At the time the newborn arrived at The Nest, it was bearly breathing and the body temperature had fallen drastically. The children and staff were shocked when they saw the condition of the tiny little boy. The Nest´s nurse immediately practised first aid and rushed the baby to the nearest hospital (Tigoni). But it was too late. The baby died in the hands of the nurses at the hospital.

The mother has been found today. She is 18 years old. The villagers have taken her to the police and she has been jailed. What will her future be like?

Letzte Nacht mussten die Mitarbeiter und Kinder im Nest sehr Trauriges erleben. Früh morgens klopften Dorfbewohner aus Limuru an die Tore des Heims. In ihren Händen hielten sie ein winziges Neugeborenes. Stunden zuvor war das Baby eingewickelt in eine Plastiktüte am Straßenrand nicht weit vom Nest entfernt gefunden worden. Es musste bereits längere Zeit in der Kälte der Nacht dort gelegen haben, denn als es ein Dorfbewohner entdeckte war der kleine Körper schon reglos wegen Unterkühlung. Die Dorfbewohner nahmen jedoch erst einmal die Suche nach der unbekannten Mutter auf anstatt das Baby ins nächste Krankenhaus oder sogleich ins Nest zu bringen. Als sie es schließlich brachten atmete das Neugeborene nurmehr schwer und war völlig unterkühlt. Die Mitarbeiter und Kinder im Nest waren vom Zustand des Kleinen geschockt. Unsere Krankenschwester leistete noch Erste Hilfe und eilte dann mit dem Nest-Auto ins nächst gelegene Krankenhaus (Tigoni). Doch für das junge Leben kam die Hilfe zu spät – nach kurzer Zeit starb das Neugeborene in den Armen der Schwestern.

Die Mutter des Babys wurde heute von den Dorfbewohnern gefunden. Sie is 18 Jahre alt. Die Dorfbewohner haben sie zur Polizei gebracht. Dort wurde sie sogleich inhaftiert. Was wird aus ihr werden?

Bitte betet für die junge Frau und auch für die Mitarbeiter im Nest, die noch immer geschockt von der plötzlichen schmerzhaften Erfahrung sind.
